How I work

Three passes. Nothing clever, just nerve.

  1. 01

    Strike

    Cross out every word that is doing no work. Most sentences lose a third of themselves here and miss nothing. The reader never knew it was there.

  2. 02

    Replace

    Swap the jargon that is left for the plain word underneath it. Say the thing, not the thing about the thing. Short words, working hard.

  3. 03

    Read aloud

    If you stumble saying it, your reader will stumble reading it. Fix the stumble, then read it once more. Then it is done.
